Appalachian State University students are in Baku, Azerbaijan, November 9-17, 2024 to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference and the 29th Annual Conference of Parties (COP29).
The event gathers approximately 50,000 participants from 200 countries to engage in the global response to climate change.
App State has been an official observer since 2021 and is included among the Research and Independent Non-Governmental Organizations (RINGO).

McEvoy has taught United Nations Climate Negotiations [ECO 4530/5530] to familiarize the students with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the annual Conference of the Parties (COP).
Engaging Students in Climate Diplomacy
Students are selected into the UN Climate Negotiations program through a competitive application process offered through the Walker College of Business. It welcomes students from all disciplines and a required course familiarizes students with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the annual Conference of the Parties (COP). Each fall, a delegation of students and faculty from App State travel to the COP and participate in the negotiations. Learn more at https://economics.appstate.edu/cop.
